NEWU

Published By Source Magazine

NEWU examines the social and self-identity implications and effects which arise when we mask and masquerade ourselves using everyday items such as clothing and makeup. Self-performances of stereotypical characters relating to the chosen mask are displayed to replicate film stills enhancing the performative quality of the work. Inspiration has been taken from beauty and fame driven Instagram posts, from young female influencers and models as well as contemporary photography and art practitioners, Cindy Sherman, Amalia Ulman and Juno Calypso.
